  • Flow under disc: The seat experiences more wear and tear because fluid pressure constantly lifts the disc. This can lead to more frequent seat regrinding or replacement. 
  • Flow over disc: The stem takes on more force because pressure pushes the disc downward. This added load can accelerate packing wear and demand proper stem alignment to avoid leaks.  

Conducting regular inspections of seats, stems, and packing at set intervals is crucial, as this prevents minor wear issues from escalating into larger failures later on.
